We like to give you a positive view of everything we can offer as a Hampshire care provider. However, there are some things we simply will not do, no matter how nicely you ask. Please make sure you do not request the following from our staff.
Our team want to make your visits fun for you, but we aren’t going to be giving you piggyback rides in your home, or out in the community. Alongside this, the team will not pretend to be horses, donkeys, or cars (even though some of us can make some great vroom vroom sounds). We are more than happy to play and engage in other ways, but please remember that, outside of legitimate moving and positioning training techniques, your Hampshire care provider does not moonlight as a form of transport.
Going to the theatre or cinema is so expensive now, even for poor quality seats. Plus, the dates or times of your favourite performances might not suit you. Please ensure that you either plan accordingly or simply wait for the DVD. Sadly, we are a Hampshire care provider, not the Royal Shakespeare Company. As much as we want to keep you entertained during your visits, we don’t have the time or the means to give you a full performance of Romeo and Juliet and conduct all of your care tasks. We could read you a couple of excerpts, but we doubt it would be up to the same standards. We all need to stick to what we’re good at: let the actors act and let the carers care!
Physical activity is important for overall health, but we do have to draw the line somewhere. As a Hampshire care provider, we can assist you in going out for walks, doing gentle exercise, and completing exercises that may have been given by physiotherapists and other medical professionals. Unfortunately, wheelbarrow racing does not fall under any of these groups, regardless of whether alcohol will be involved or not (note: please also don’t offer our team alcohol, they aren’t allowed to drink on shift).
We do allow for some level of risk within our care plans, as nothing in life is 100% risk-free, but we must turn down the delightful suggestion of being your barrow or handler. Perhaps this activity would be better suited to friends and family.
Your home is your safe space, somewhere you want residents and guests alike to feel welcome. While we very much appreciate you welcoming us as your Hampshire care provider, there are limitations to how welcoming you can be. We won’t say no to a coffee and choccy biccy, but that’s about all the kindness you should provide. After all, we are there to help you, not the other way around.
Due to this, we must ask you to stop building pillow forts and bedding sheet tents for our care staff and then offering them naptime. Our team do work hard as they value each and every one of our clients. That being said, they are given a specific amount of time for your visit based on the tasks required. Additionally, while sleeping in a blanket fort can be fun, your Healthcare Assistant runs the risk of waking up with a bad back from improper support, and we can’t have that!
Our team are absolutely wonderful; we’ll be the first to admit this. Each of them has strengths that they bring to the team, and their individual personalities make them some of the best people we know. Keep in mind that, even though you may have a fantastic relationship with your care team, many of them do already have a partner or spouse.
It would also be both immoral and against company policy for romance to spark up between care staff and clients or their family members. Therefore, while we are incredibly flattered by your offer of marriage, a relationship, or time outside of your scheduled shifts, we must sadly decline.
Home care and boring do not go hand in hand. While any healthcare visits should keep maximising quality of life and wellbeing as the ultimate goal, they should still be enjoyable. We want you to build positive working relationships with your care team. Each Healthcare Assistant we employ is thoroughly vetted to ensure that they are the right person for the role and that they have the right personality to build that rapport.
