There are 4 main types of MND that you may be diagnosed with:
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) – the most common form of MND. This is characterised by weakness in the arm and leg muscles. Often, people will find they are more prone to tripping and falling, and struggle with holding objects.
Progressive Bulbar Palsy (PBP) -this mostly affects the facial muscles, including the throat and tongue. You may find you have increased difficulty with swallowing and slurred speech.
Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS) – characterised by weakness in the legs. This type may also include speech problems.
Progressive Muscular Atropy (PMA) – primary symptom is weakness in the hands and fingers.
