Why are vehicle checks important in the healthcare industry?

Every role has its positives and negatives. While we could give you many reasons why it is fantastic to deliver home care in Hampshire, we also want prospective clients and employees to be able to make an informed decision. Working as a Healthcare Assistant can be incredibly rewarding but, as with any aspect of life, there is always another side to the coin.
A good Healthcare Assistant won’t just view their role as a job. They will look to build a working relationship with each client. Over time, this means you may get to know one another, as well as other members of the team. Conversations can flow easily, resulting in you knowing more about the client’s past, family, and wider life. In turn, they may know little bits of information about you, such as your partner or children’s names, and things you enjoy.
Working with clients and other Healthcare Assistants on a regular basis, and having a vested interest in it, will result in emotional connections. Should a care package end, through either choice, additional needs or, sadly, death, this can have a profound effect on the team. Likewise, when a Healthcare Assistant leaves the business, it can also be sad knowing you won’t work with that person any longer.
Even though it’s a part of the role, you may still grieve that loss. This is where support from HR, Care Co-ordinators, and the Directors is absolutely vital. Much as you would in your personal life, it is important to have a secure support network that you can turn to.
You may find that, when watching your favourite television show, you notice something that isn’t quite accurate. One of the negatives of undertaking extensive training, imperative when providing home care in Hampshire, is that you will be able to spot these inconsistencies.
The biggest of these, in our opinion, is the use of CPR and defibrillation. You have probably seen scenes where someone receives chest compressions and, most of the time, this will be in the centre of the chest. It is a completely natural response to end up shouting at the television about how wrong that is. After all, chest compressions, when done correctly, could result in a broken rib. When done that high up, there is a high risk of a rib piercing the heart. Healthcare training dictates that you should do slightly lower down, under the ribcage. While this means there is a risk of a punctured lung, this can be repaired.
In the media, if compressions fail and a character has a cardiac flatline, doctors will typically then bring out a defibrillator to shock the patient. Once again, it is perfectly acceptable to shout at the screen. When the heart is asystole, the proper terminology for a cardiac flatline, this means there is no electrical activity in the heart, a defibrillator will have no effect. For this to work, some form of activity needs to be taking place.
You may also notice a wide array of other discrepancies, meaning your working life can change movies and television for you forever.
When people know you do home care in Hampshire, they may try to seek your advice or aid for medical situations. If so, please remember that you should always tell others to seek official medical advice. Working in healthcare doesn’t make you qualified to diagnose or treat. Of course, you may be the ideal person when it comes to minor grazes and scrapes, but anything that would be classed as a more serious wound, illness, or condition should always be directed to a pharmacy, GP, 111, or 999, as appropriate.
In regard to home care for loved ones, such as an elderly parent, it is up to you to decide if that is something you’d want to take on, much as it would be for any other family member. Working in the industry does not mean that you are obliged to take on that responsibility.
Although your role in home care in Hampshire may be your passion, it is important to set boundaries between your working and personal lives.
If these potential negatives don’t sound off-putting to you, then you could be the right fit for a Healthcare Assistant position. You will receive in-depth training to allow you to deal with various situations and care requirements and become part of a team who genuinely believe in the person-centred approach.
